Pray
07/24/2008
Today is a day for prayer. Aubrey needs help today. Please no calls, just pray.
Well Aubrey went from not so good to worse today. We came in to the doctors saying a bunch of her levels were down and chances were they were not going to take her to surgery… then this afternoon it got worse. She is on a bunch of antibiotics, some anti fungal, and getting some blood. They said they were going to try to take her to surgery next week if she is doing better but she isn’t going to be better overnight so they want to wait till she can handle it… right now she could not. That is about it for her we just need her to get through this so we can take the next step to her getting out of the hospital.
Well Aubrey is doing fine now but she is still on the vent because they are going to take her in tomorrow for surgery. It may or may not have been a mucus plug it didn’t show on the x-ray but the lungs are moist which caused a section of the lung to stick together and they just needed to be “popped” apart and now they are getting some gunk out. They are trying to get rid of some of the extra fluids that they are giving her with her meds. Dr. C said it’s going to be a 4-6 hour surgery depending on what they see when they are in there. We know it’s going to be sometime in the afternoon when they take her in but it all depends on how behind they get with the other surgerys.
Well Aubrey had some issues today so there will be no surgery today it will be on Tuesday. She might have a mucus plug in her lung that isn’t letting her have as much oxygen that she should. She is doing alright but she is on the vent and she prob will be till she goes in on Tuesday.
So I got to thinking about it and when Aubrey goes to surgery this will be the 8th time (I think it’s hard to keep count) that she has went to surgery… that’s alot. Anyway they are trying to get her to be part of a clinical trial for a drug that is legal in Europe and they are doing trials on in another state. It’s something made from fish oil that counter acts the issues that are caused by the TPN that she was on… which means it will help get rid of the liver damage… so we are game for that. Then if they do the surgery it sounds like they might remove the bad section and overlap the good ends to help it heal up and also put something around it to seal it up so we will see. They can’t do the surgery until they get the other things figured out but that sounds like the plan so far.
Well they are going to do another surgery but they need to get her “better” before they go in. Not that she is sick they need her nutrition to be better and issues that have been caused by that to go away. The plan is to take the “bad” part of the bowel out and stitch it back together but we will see. She is still a little stinker and the staff likes her and she gets to play with them… we wish we could be here more but we have these darn jobs that we go to… which is a good thing or we might go crazy. Anyway we hope she gets better soon so we can take her home to see the dogs… cause they really want to meet her.
Well Aubrey is 5 months today and she is still leaking… booo. Anyway they changed things up a little she is getting formula with more calories in it now so that she can get what she needs. Her weight is down a little don’t know how much but it’s down because they took her off the fluids to save her liver… “operation save the liver” as we call it. We do have a different problem that we are dealing with now… she likes to watch tv already but that is because there is nothing to do in that little room but watch tv. Don’t get me wrong she only watches it because it moves because if there is someone walking around the room she will watch them also.
Aubrey got dressed up today to wish everyone a happy 4th. Aubrey is being fed through her ND tube in her nose still and she is also still leaking out of her belly… we are on operation “save the liver” right now. They took her off her fluids (TPN) so she is getting formula, potassium chloride (water pretty much with a few additions), and her lipids to keep her going. She is just over 13lbs right now but she might go down a little bit for a couple days… we will see. Aubrey is looking less yellow so that is a good sign that her liver is doing a little better it’s just a wait and see game. Matt did the tape job on Aubrey’s tube but that is because she keeps pulling it out so it’s tape city around here and they also got a cast/splint type thing for her when we aren’t here so she can’t bend her arm and get the tube… little stinker!!
Well a couple days ago they took us out of the PICU and put Aubrey back on the 3rd floor. They have started feeds even though she is leaking because they need to get her off the fluids because of her liver. The fluids (TPN) are very hard on the liver and can cause liver failure and she has been on them for most of her life so they need to get her off. She is still happy but she sure does have an attitude and knows what she wants. She has been more active since they have started the feeds so they are going to keep them going in hopes that she will heal up and get better.
