A new hope
08/01/2008
Today was a day of experimentation. Dr. R took Aubrey off of the oscillator and onto a conventional ventilator for a test run. After about an hour of guess work on the vent settings they found Aubrey’s sweet spot. She was able to stay in a good zone with good gas results for 7hrs, then they placed her back on the oscillator. We were advised by surgery that the gut repair could take 4-6hrs, so we now know she can go from a respiratory point of view. Now we need to hope the rest of the systems can go.
With a new month, a new rotation of residences start. The month of August has brought Aubrey her original resident doc from the NICU. Also on call this weekend is her original surgeon, taking a break from retirement. So the two people who started this have a chance to finish it.
As with every story we have a plot twist. The liver that we all have been worried about for some time, is probably at its weakest point. From our point of view its go time, we just need to make sure everyone else is on this page with us. This surgery is not a fix all, but it will give Aubrey a fighting chance. And as we all know, she is a fighter.

Hey Carrie & Matt and beautiful and precious Aubrey,
We are praying for you daily that you come out of this soon. Just remember that there are alot of people that are there for you when you need them….also, make sure that you take people up on there help…..if they didn’t want to help you out, they wouldn’t offer.
Great website……keep up the good work.
