back on the 3rd floor

06/29/2008

Well a couple days ago they took us out of the PICU and put Aubrey back on the 3rd floor. They have started feeds even though she is leaking because they need to get her off the fluids because of her liver. The fluids (TPN) are very hard on the liver and can cause liver failure and she has been on them for most of her life so they need to get her off. She is still happy but she sure does have an attitude and knows what she wants. She has been more active since they have started the feeds so they are going to keep them going in hopes that she will heal up and get better.

still in the PICU

06/21/2008

Well we are still in the PICU… it’s not really anything keeping us up here besides the fact that Aubrey thought it would be fun to have a temp. We hope to be out of the ICU and back on the floor soon and we are still crossing our fingers that she will heal up and get to go home soon… they still can’t give us any idea about when that will be but we want them to go slower this time so after they start feeding…. whenever that happens… it will still be a couple weeks after that. She is back to giving smiles all the time and she still calms down quick so we can’t wait to take her home.

yet another week

06/14/2008

Well Aubrey is still in the PICU and on the vent… for the most part she is on the vent because we didn’t want her off today. We aren’t really into things like lucky socks or friday the 13th but darn it all we know how Aubrey is 3 days after surgery and we didn’t want to chance it. So tomorrow she will be coming off the vent and then they will get rid of her pain meds a little at a time. She has been awake the past couple days and seems to be doing much better she still has a small leak but they hope it will close up… we will see. We are sick of having these big deals happen after surgery and we don’t want to have any more “bad” days. We will see how it all goes and we hope for the best we want to get her out of here.

everything was not fine

06/09/2008

Well Aubrey had a rough couple days she got very bloated and the pressure in her belly was worring the doctors because if to much pressure is on the organs they can shut down because they aren’t getting enough blood. They took her back to surgery on Sunday and found a small leak they got that taken care of and cleaned her insides up. They did find an infection and she seems to be getting better. She was very very sick for a couple days and she still is sick. They are going to try to get her off the vent tomorrow if things go well tonight. We are crossing our fingers that this fixes it. Here is a pic of her ultrasound (she is not pregnant), her CT scan, and her set up in the PICU.

Not ending any time soon

06/07/2008

Well Aubrey is doing alright… her liver is on the large side so they stopped her TPN (fluids that she gets) and she is very bloated. They are worried that there might be some kind of infection but so far everything has come back good. They put her on the vent just to make sure everything is fine and they don’t want to have put it in later (an emergency situation). They might be taking her down to surgery tomorrow to check and see that there isn’t something going on inside but it could just be her body reacting to surgery… let’s face it we know her body doesn’t do well with surgery. So we are just waiting to see what happens… yet again.

Will it ever end?

06/06/2008

Well last night around 11pm the 3rd floor Residence’s decided they were not sure what was going on so they went and snagged the Attending and Residence’s from the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit).  After about a 10 minute rundown of her history and the last few days, they decided to move Aubrey to the PICU.  They changed out her IV fluid mix and started something new, they also stopped the morphine for pain and now giving her fentynol. The Attending said that some of her symptoms could be caused by an allergic reaction to the morphine but several others could not. So yet again we are just waiting.

So here we are on yet another floor with another new team….and for those of you who are the glass is half full mind set, the PICU is on the 2nd floor which is closer to the door. I am not of that mind set.

Day After Surgery

06/04/2008

Aubrey is out of hopefully her last ever surgery and she is doing alright. She isn’t very happy but we got a few smiles out of her today. She goes back and forth between not happy and sleeping… with a small amout of awake time where she isn’t crying a whole lot. She is one tough cookie. They said that they didn’t have to mess with too much while they were in there so she should heal up pretty quick and that they might be able to feed her in a couple days if everything goes well. That is really about all we have right now.

Surgery Tomorrow

06/02/2008

Well Aubrey is going back to surgery tomorrow to fix her “leak” so wish us luck… we will let everyone know how it goes… we just found out today that she is going in so we are trying to keep everyone in the loop.

just another day in Aubrey world

06/01/2008

Well we talked to a couple people from surgery and they said that they are going to see what Dr. C wants to do tomorrow… that might mean another surgery… yuck. She is still leaking and it doesn’t seem to want to close on it’s own so it looks like they are going to have to close it up for her. We talked to the new resident and she showed us the x-ray’s from the contrast and she said that everything looks good… her bowels move at a normal rate… things move through normal… there is no block… just this darn leak. Everyone will be happy to know that she is usually all smiles and loves to watch the fish (we take her on walks around the floor) so we might have to buy her a fish tank… even though Matt thinks fish are stupid… unless they are salt water fish.
